20 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Pen (Al-Qalam) before The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou enwrapped! 1 Keep vigil the night long, save a little - 2 Half of it, or a little less than that, 3 or add to it [at will]; and [during that time] recite the Qur'an calmly and distinctly, with thy mind attuned to its meaning. 4 For we shall charge thee with a word of weight. 5 [and,] verily, the hours of night impress the mind most strongly and speak with the clearest voice, 6 Verily, there is for you by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties, 7 Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Lord of the eastern and western regions, with due sincerity. 8 Lord of the East and Lord of the West – there is no God except Him, therefore make Him your sole Trustee of affairs. 9 Bear with patience what they say, and gracefully come away from them. 10 And let Me alone with the beliers, owners of ease: and respite thou them a little. 11 With Us are Fetters (to bind them), and a Fire (to burn them), 12 And a food that choketh and a torment afflictive. 13 On the Day when the earth with all its mountains quake and the mountains become heaps of shifting sand. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness upon you just as We sent to Pharaoh a messenger. 15 Then Fir'awn disobeyed the apostle, wherefore We laid hold of him with a painful hold. 16 If you persist in disbelieving, how will you guard yourself against the (woe of the) Day that will turn children grey-haired, 17 Whereon the heaven will be cleft asunder? His Promise is certainly to be accomplished. 18 Indeed this is nothing but a Good Counsel; so let him who will take a way leading to his Lord. 19

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
