Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Ha. Mim. 1 I swear by the Book that makes manifest (the truth). 2 that We have revealed the Quran on a blessed night to warn mankind. 3 Whereon every wise command is made clear 4 As a command from before Us. Verily We were to become senders: 5 as a mercy (for the human being) from your Lord. Your Lord is All-hearing and All-knowing. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, if you really do believe. 7 There is no Allah save Him. He quickeneth and giveth death; your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Nay, but they play in doubt. 9 But watch thou (O Muhammad) for the day when the sky will produce visible smoke 10 Which will envelop the people; this is a painful punishment. 11 Thereupon they will say, “O our Lord! Remove the punishment from us – we now accept faith.” 12 How can they benefit from admonition, seeing that a messenger had already come to them explaining things clearly? 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "He is a madman, taught by others!" 14 We shall remove the torment for a while but you will revert to your old ways. 15 on the Day when We shall seize [all sinners] with a most mighty onslaught, We shall, verily, inflict Our retribution [on you as well]! 16 ۞ And before them We indeed tried the people of Firaun, and an Honourable Noble Messenger came to them. 17 saying, "Hand over God's servants to me. I am a trustworthy messenger for you. 18 Do not set yourselves above God: I bring you clear authority. 19 I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me. 20 If you do not believe in me, at least keep away from me." 21 And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people. 22 So depart thou with My bondmen by night; verily ye shall be pursued. 23 And leave the sea in stillness. Indeed, they are an army to be drowned." 24 [And so they perished: and] how many gardens did they leave behind, and water-runnels, 25 And cornfields and goodly positions. 26 and the life of ease in which they took delight! 27 Thus (it was), and We gave them as a heritage to another people. 28 and neither sky nor earth shed tears over them, nor were they allowed a respite. 29
