He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 and angelic scribes. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And olives and palms 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
