The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Night as it conceals (the light); 1 And by oath of the day when it shines 2 and by the creation of the male and the female. 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 And accepts the best, 6 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Bliss. 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former. 13 Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell); 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 and from which the most godfearing shall be removed, 17 He who gives his wealth to be purified, 18 They do not expect any reward 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 He surely will be pleased (when he will enter Paradise). 21
