Jonah too was one of the Envoys; 139 When he left towards the laden ship. 140 He (agreed to) cast lots, and he was condemned: 141 Then he was swallowed by a large fish as he was worthy of blame. 142 Had he not glorified God, 143 he would have lingered in its belly till the Day they are resurrected. 144 ۞ Then We cast him on a desert shore while he was sick; 145 And We caused to grow over him a gourd vine. 146 And We sent him towards a hundred thousand people, in fact more. 147 and they believed. So We let them enjoy life for a while. 148 Now ask them if their Lord has daughters, and they sons? 149 Have We created the angels as females before their very eyes? 150 Pay heed! It is their slander that they say. – 151 "God has begotten children." They are truly liars. 152 “Has he chosen daughters instead of sons?” 153 What aileth you? How judge ye? 154 “So do you not ponder?” 155 Or have ye a clear warrant? 156 Then bring your scripture, if what you say is true. 157 They have set up a kinship between Him and the jinn; and the jinn know that they shall be arraigned. 158 Exaltations to Allah above what they describe, 159 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 160 For, verily, neither ye nor those ye worship- 161 Ye cannot excite (anyone) against Him. 162 except for he who shall roast in Hell. 163 And there is none of us but has an assigned place, 164 and, verily, we too are ranged [before Him in worship]; 165 And we are they who exalt (Allah)' 166 And there were those who said, 167 “If we had some advice from the earlier generations,” – 168 We would certainly have been the servants of Allah-- the purified ones. 169 But they disbelieved in it, so they are going to know. 170 Our Word had already preceded Our worshipers, the Messengers, 171 That they would certainly be assisted, 172 And surely, only Our army will be victorious. 173 (Muhammad), stay away from them for a while 174 And watch them and they shall see (the punishment)! 175 Do they wish (indeed) to hurry on our Punishment? 176 When it lights in their courtyard, how evil will be the morning of them that are warned! 177 And turn away from them for some time. 178 And see thou: they themselves shall presently see. 179 Exalted be your Lord, the Lord of Glory, above what they attribute to Him, 180 Peace be with the Messengers (of God). 181 and all praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Universe. 182
