The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
When the sun is wrapped up [in darkness] 1 when the stars shall be thrown down, 2 And when the mountains are removed 3 when the pregnant camels are neglected, 4 And when the wild beasts are gathered 5 And when the seas are filled with flame 6 And when the souls are paired 7 and when the girl-child buried alive shall be asked: 8 Upon what sin was she killed for. 9 And when the written pages of deeds (good and bad) of every person shall be laid open; 10 and when heaven is laid bare, 11 when Hell is set ablaze, 12 And when the Garden shall be brought nigh, 13 then shall each person know what he has brought along. 14 So, I call the receding stars to witness, 15 the runners, the sinkers, 16 by the night swarming, 17 And by the dawn when it breathes 18 behold, this [divine writ] is indeed the [inspired] word of a noble apostle, 19 Owner of strength, of established dignity with the Lord of the Throne. 20 obeyed by (all creatures) and faithful to His trust. 21 Nor is your companion distracted. 22 Assuredly he beheld him in the horizon manifest. 23 He is not avid of the Unseen. 24 Nor is it the word of an evil spirit accursed. 25 where then are you going? 26 It is naught but a Reminder unto all beings, 27 To whomsoever among you who wills to walk straight, 28 However, you will not be able to choose anything unless God, Lord of the Universe wills it to be so. 29
