A multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the first generation (who embraced Islam). 39 And a company of the later peoples. 40 The Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 41 In scorching wind and boiling hot water. 42 and a shade of thick, pitch-black smoke, 43 neither cold nor graceful in shape. 44 Indeed they were, before that, indulging in affluence, 45 And were persisting in great sin (joining partners in worship along with Allah, committing murders and other crimes, etc.) 46 They used to say: “What! Once we are dead and are reduced to dust and bones, shall we still be raised to a new life from the dead? 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients' 48 Say: "Verily, those of olden times and those of later times 49 "All will surely be gathered together for appointed Meeting of a known Day. 50 Then indeed you, the astray, the deniers 51 you shall eat (the fruit) of the Tree of Zakkum. 52 And fill (your) bellies with it; 53 and on top of this you will drink boiling water 54 Drinking the way thirsty camels drink. 55 Such will be their dwelling on the Day of Judgment. 56 WE who have created you, [O men:] why, then, do you not accept the truth? 57 Have you seen that which you emit? 58 Do you create a child out of it, or are We its creators? 59 We have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outdone 60 From replacing you with others or raising you in a way you do not know. 61 And assuredly ye have fully known the first production wherefore heed ye not? 62 Behold! that which ye sow. 63 Do you give it its increase, or are We the giver? 64 Had We wanted, We could have crushed it to bits and you would have been left to lament, 65 (Saying): "We are indeed Mughramun (i.e. ruined or lost the money without any profit, or punished by the loss of all that we spend for cultivation, etc.)! [See Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 17, Page 219] 66 Nay! we are deprived. 67 Behold! the water which ye drink: 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds, or are We the senders? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire you kindle? 71 Is it you that originated its tree, or are We the Originator? 72 We, even We, appointed it a memorial and a comfort for the dwellers in the wilderness. 73 Therefor (O Muhammad), praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous. 74
