Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise and warn, 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 and flee from the statues! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 May he be condemned! 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
