Nay! By the moon 32 And by the Night as it retreateth, 33 By the morning when it brighteneth. 34 it is one of the greatest trials, 35 Warn the men. 36 to whoever among you desires to go forward, or lag behind. 37 Every soul is a pledge for its own deeds; 38 save the Companions of the Right; 39 [Who will be] in gardens, questioning each other 40 About the guilty: 41 What hath brought you to this burning? 42 They said, “We never used to offer the prayer.” 43 "Nor were we of those who fed the indigent; 44 and we were wont to indulge in sinning together with all [the others] who indulged in it; 45 and we cried lies to the Day of Doom, 46 “Till death overcame us.” 47 Then the intercession of the intercessors shall not profit them. 48 If such will be the Day of Judgment, what is the matter with them? Why do they run away from guidance, 49 As if they were affrighted asses, 50 Fleeing away from a lion. 51 Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out! 52 By no means! Aye, they fear not the Hereafter. 53 Nay! it is surely an admonition. 54 Let him who will take heed: 55 And they will not heed unless Allah willeth (it). He is the fount of fear. He is the fount of Mercy. 56
