He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 you attend to him, 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 and who has fear of God, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 then the way eased for him, 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 wife and sons, 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
