We have not created the heavens and earth, and what between them is, for vanity; such is the thought of the unbelievers, wherefore woe unto the unbelievers because of the Fire! 27 [For,] would We treat those who have attained to faith and do righteous deeds in the same manner as [We shall treat] those who spread corruption on earth? Would We treat the God-conscious in the same manner as the wicked? 28 This is a Book We have sent down unto thee, blest, that they may ponder the revelations thereof, and that there may be admonished men of understanding. 29 We bestowed Solomon on David who was an excellent devotee, for he turned to God in penitence. 30 Behold, there were brought before him, at eventide coursers of the highest breeding, and swift of foot; 31 he said, "I have put the love of good things above the remembrance of my Lord," until [the sun] disappeared behind its veil and the horses disappeared from sight, 32 [He said], "Return them to me," and set about striking [their] legs and necks. 33 And We certainly tried Solomon and placed on his throne a body; then he returned. 34 saying, "Lord, forgive me and grant me a kingdom that no one after me can have the like. You are All-munificent". 35 Then We subjected the wind to his power, to flow gently to his order, Whithersoever he willed,- 36 and the satans, every builder and diver 37 And others fettered in chains. 38 [Saying of Allah to Sulaiman (Solomon)]: "This is Our gift, so spend you or withhold, no account will be asked." 39 And verily for him is an approach with Us, and a happy end. 40
