The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 arise and give warning! 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And sons present by his side. 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
