Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Certainly the news of the calamity that will overwhelm has come to you! 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated, 2 be toiling and worn-out; 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 Made to drink water from the boiling hot spring. 5 They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 Well-pleased because of their striving, 9 In a Garden on high, 10 Wherein you shall not hear vain talk. 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 And chosen goblets. 14 Cushions arranged, 15 and carpets outspread. 16 Look they not at the camels, how they are created? 17 And the heaven – how it has been raised? 18 And at the Mountains, how they are fixed firm?- 19 And at the earth, how it is outspread? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 As for those who turn their back and disbelieve, 23 Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 Then verily, for Us will be their reckoning. 26
