The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can avert, 2 From Allah, Owner of the ascending steps. 3 The angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] ascend to Him in a Day the measure whereof is fifty thousand years, 4 Therefore be patient, with a beautiful patience; 5 They think that it (the Day of Judgment) is far away. 6 but We see it is nigh. 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 and no bosom friend will enquire about any of his bosom friends 10 Though they shall be made to see one another [(i.e. on the Day of Resurrection), there will be none but see his father, children and relatives, but he will neither speak to them nor will ask them for any help)], - the Mujrim, (criminal, sinner, disbeliever, etc.) would desire to ransom himself from the punishment of that Day by his children. 11 and of his spouse, and of his brother, 12 And his kindred who sheltered him, 13 and whosoever is in the earth, altogether, so that it might save him. 14 Nay, verily it is a furnace 15 Plucking out (his being) right to the skull!- 16 It shall insistently summon him who turned his back and retreated, 17 Who amasses and then hoards. 18 ۞ Lo! man was created anxious, 19 Being greatly grieved when evil afflicts him 20 And when good toucheth him he is begrudging. 21 Not so, however, those who consciously turn towards God in prayer. 22 and continue at their prayers, 23 And those in whose wealth exists a recognised right, 24 to those who ask [for help] and to the destitute; 25 and those who believe in the Day of Judgement 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's doom - 27 Surely the chastisement of their Lord is (a thing) not to be felt secure of-- 28 And those who guard their private parts 29 save from their wives and what their right hands own, then not being blameworthy 30 But those who seek more than this will be transgressors; 31 And those who protect the property entrusted to them, and their agreements. 32 And those who are upright in their testimonies, 33 And those who protect their prayers. 34 Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss). 35
