The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Indeed, there came upon the human a period of time when he was an unremembered thing. 1 Lo! We create man from a drop of thickened fluid to test him; so We make him hearing, knowing. 2 Surely We have shown him the way: he may be thankful or unthankful. 3 Lo! We have prepared for disbelievers manacles and carcans and a raging fire. 4 Surely the pious shall drink of a cup whose mixture is camphor, 5 This will be a gushing spring wherefrom Allah's servants shall drink wine, a spring from which they will take out channels wherever they wish. 6 They perform (their) vows, and they fear a Day whose evil flies far and wide. 7 they give food, for the love of Him, to the needy, the orphan, the captive: 8 [saying, in their hearts,] "We feed you for the sake of God alone: we desire no recompense from you, nor thanks: 9 behold, we stand in awe of our Sustainer's judgment on a distressful, fateful Day!" 10 God will certainly rescue them from the terror of that day and will meet them with joy and pleasure. 11 and their reward for being patient will be a Garden and silk [clothing]. 12 Reclining there upon couches, they shall see neither the sun nor the moon. 13 And the shade thereof is close upon them, and the bunches of fruit thereof will hang low within their reach. 14 And brought round amongst them will be vessels of silver and also goblets of glass. 15 goblets of silver that they have precisely measured. 16 And they will be given to drink there a cup (of wine) mixed with Zanjabil (ginger, etc.), 17 from a spring named salsabil. 18 ۞ And round about them will (serve) boys of everlasting youth. If you see them, you would think them scattered pearls. 19 And when you look towards it, you will see serenity and a great kingdom. 20 Upon them shall be garments of fine green silk and thick silk interwoven with gold, and they shall be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord shall make them drink a pure drink. 21 "Verily this is a Reward for you, and your Endeavour is accepted and recognised." 22
