(O Muhammad), recite in the Book the account of Abraham. Most surely he was a man of truth, a Prophet. 41 He said to his father, "Why do you worship something that can neither hear nor see nor benefit you in any way? 42 Father, knowledge has come to me which has not come you, therefore, follow me. I will guide you to a Level Path. 43 Father, do not worship satan; for satan has rebelled against the Merciful. 44 O My father! verily I fear that there may touch thee a torment from the Compassionate so that thou become to the Satan a companion. 45 He said: "Are you averse to my gods, O Abraham? If you do not desist, I shall have you stoned to death. So go away for a while from me." 46 Ibrahim said: peace be on thee! anon I shall ask forgiveness of my Lord for thee; verily He is unto me ever so solicitous. 47 But I shall withdraw from you all and from whatever you invoke instead of God, and shall invoke my Sustainer [alone]: it may well be that my prayer [for thee] will not remain unanswered by my Sustainer." 48 When he had turned away from them and from those whom they worshipped besides Allah, We bestowed on him Isaac and Jacob, and each one of them We made a prophet. 49 and We bestowed on them Our mercy, and granted them a truly lofty renown. 50
