And this (Qur'an) is a revelation from the Lord of all the worlds, 192 Which the True Spirit hath brought down 193 Upon your heart, for you to convey warning. 194 in the clear Arabic tongue. 195 And indeed it is mentioned in the earlier Books. 196 Is it not a Sign to them that the Learned of the Children of Israel knew it (as true)? 197 If We had revealed it to a nonArab, 198 And he had recited it to them, and they had not believed (it would have been different). 199 Even so We have caused it to enter into the hearts of the sinners, 200 They will not believe in it until they clearly see the grievous chastisement. 201 And it will come to them suddenly while they perceive [it] not. 202 they say: "Can we be granted some respite?" 203 Do they want to hasten Our punishment? 204 Tell Me, if We do let them enjoy for years, 205 And then there cometh unto them that which they had been promised. 206 of what avail would their past enjoyment be to them? 207 Never a city We destroyed, but it had warners 208 To remind, and We are never unjust. 209 The devils did not bring it down: 210 And it behoves them not, and they have not the power to do (it). 211 verily, [even] from hearing it are they utterly debarred! 212 (Muhammad), do not worship anything besides God lest you suffer the punishment. 213 And warn thou thy clan, the nearest ones. 214 Lower thy wing to those who follow thee, being believers; 215 If they disobey you, say, "I bear no responsibility for what you do." 216 And rely upon the Exalted in Might, the Merciful, 217 who sees thee when thou standest 218 And watches your movements among those who prostrate in prayer. 219 Lo! He, only He, is the Hearer, the Knower. 220 Shall I tell you on whom the Satans come down? 221 They descend on every sinful, false one. 222 who readily lend ear [to every falsehood,] and most of whom lie to others as well. 223 And the astray follow the poets. 224 Have you not seen them wandering and bewildered in every valley 225 preaching what they do not practice. 226 Not so the true believers who do good works and remember God with fervour and defend themselves only after they are wronged. The wrongdoers will soon know how evil a turn their affairs will take. 227
