He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And he fears, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and grass, 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
