The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 on which they [so utterly] disagree. 3 But they will soon come to know. 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 Have We not made the earth as a place to rest 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs. 8 And have made your sleep as a thing for rest. 9 and made the night a covering, 10 And We made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 We have built above you seven mighty heavens, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 and sent down abundant water from the clouds 14 to make the seeds, plants, 15 And gardens of thick foliage. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 the Day that the Horn is blown, and you shall come in crowds 18 and heaven is opened, and become gates, 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Truly Hell is as a place of ambush, 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 where they shall remain for ages, 23 They shall not taste therein cool nor drink 24 Save boiling water and a paralysing cold: 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 For verily, they used not to look for a reckoning. 27 And they belied Our revelations with strong belying. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
