(The nation of) Aad belied their Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: fear ye not? 124 I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 127 "Do ye build a landmark on every high place to amuse yourselves? 128 “And prefer strong palaces, that perhaps you may live for ever?” 129 “And when you apprehend someone, you seize him mercilessly?” 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 He has given you abundance of cattle and children 133 and gardens, and springs: 134 "Truly I fear for you the Penalty of a Great Day." 135 They replied, "It makes no difference to us whether you preach or do not preach, 136 “This is nothing but the tradition of former people.” 137 And we are not to be punished." 138 So they belied him, and We destroyed them. Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Surely your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 140
