a multitude of the ancients, 39 And a crowd of the later. 40 As for the People on the Left: how miserable will be the People on the Left! 41 Amidst scorching wind and scalding water. 42 in the shadow of a smoking blaze, 43 Neither cool nor refreshing. 44 Before they lived at ease, 45 and persisted in the great sin 46 and they used to say, "What! After we have died and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up again? 47 “And also our forefathers?” 48 Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Lo! those of old and those of later time 49 Will all be brought together to the tryst of an appointed day. 50 Then lo! ye, the erring, the deniers, 51 "Ye will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqum. 52 filling your bellies, with it 53 and on top of this you will drink boiling water 54 Lapping it up like female camels raging of thirst with disease." 55 Such shall be your hospitality on the Day of Recompense. 56 We created you, then why do you believe not? 57 Have you considered the seed you spill? 58 Do you make a human out of it, or is it We Who create? 59 It is We who have ordained death for all of you; and We cannot be prevented 60 from changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (forms) that ye know not. 61 And ye certainly know already the first form of creation: why then do ye not celebrate His praises? 62 Have you considered the seeds you till? 63 Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower? 64 If We will We can make it like dry trampled hay, so you would keep crying out. 65 (And say:) "We have fallen into debt; 66 Nay, but we are deprived! 67 Tell Me! The water that you drink. 68 Send it down ye from the raincloud, or are We the Sender down? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 Tell Me! The fire which you kindle, 71 Is it you who produced its tree, or are We the producer? 72 We have made it as a reminder and convenience for the needy. 73 Glorify, then, (O Prophet), the name of your Great Lord. 74
