The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
When the sun shall be wound round, 1 And when the stars shall dart down, 2 and the mountains have been taken, 3 the young barren camels are abandoned, 4 When the wild beasts are herded together (in the human habitations); 5 and when the seas are set on fire, 6 when the souls shall be coupled, 7 And when the girl-child that was buried alive is asked 8 for what sin she was slain, 9 when the scrolls shall be unrolled, 10 when heaven shall be stripped off; 11 And when hell is lighted, 12 And when the Garden is brought nigh, 13 A soul will [then] know what it has brought [with it]. 14 BUT NAY! I call to witness the revolving stars, 15 orbiting, disappearing; 16 And by the night when it departeth, 17 and brightening morning, 18 [That] indeed, the Qur'an is a word [conveyed by] a noble messenger 19 The processor of strength, having an honorable place with the Lord of the Dominion, 20 obeyed, moreover trusty. 21 Your Companion is not mad, 22 he indeed saw the message-bearer on the clear horizon; 23 And this Prophet is not miserly upon the hidden. (Allah gave the knowledge of the hidden to the Holy Prophet – peace and blessings be upon him.) 24 Nor is it the word of a satan accursed. 25 So where are you going? 26 It is naught but a Reminder unto all beings, 27 to every one of you who wishes to tread the straight path. 28 Though you cannot desire except as God will, the Lord of all the worlds. 29
