Al-Taareq
The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the heaven, and At-Tariq (the night-comer, i.e. the bright star); 1 And what shall make thee know that which the night-comer is? 2 It is the star that shines with a piercing brightness -- 3 [for] no human being has been left unguarded. 4 So let man consider of what he was created; 5 Created from a gushing fluid. 6 which comes out of the loins and ribs. 7 Indeed Allah is Able to return him. 8 A day when the secrets will be examined. 9 he shall have no power, and no helper. 10 By the sky which returns [rain] 11 and by the earth bursting with vegetation; 12 BEHOLD, this [divine writ] is indeed a word that distinguishes between truth and falsehood, 13 it is not a jest. 14 They are cunningly devising, 15 And I plot a plot (against them). 16 Therefore grant a delay to the Unbelievers: Give respite to them gently (for awhile). 17
