The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 arise and give warning! 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And sons present by his side. 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
