The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Indeed, there came upon the human a period of time when he was an unremembered thing. 1 Verily, it is We who have created man out of a drop of sperm intermingled, so that We might try him [in his later life]: and therefore We made him a being endowed with hearing and sight. 2 We surely showed him the way that he may either be grateful or deny. 3 Verily, We have prepared for the disbelievers iron chains, iron collars, and a blazing Fire. 4 the righteous shall drink from a cup mixed with the coolness of kafur, 5 A Fountain where the Devotees of Allah do drink, making it flow in unstinted abundance. 6 Those who fulfil their vows and fear the Day whose evil shall be diffused far and wide, 7 And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, 8 (Saying),"We feed you for the sake of Allah alone: no reward do we desire from you, nor thanks. 9 for we fear from our Lord a frowning day, inauspicious. 10 So Allah will save them from the evil of that Day and has secured for them radiance and joyfulness, 11 And their recompense shall be Paradise, and silken garments, because they were patient. 12 Reclining in it, upon thrones; they will not see the hot sunshine in it, nor the bitter cold. 13 since its [blissful] shades will come down low over them, and low will hang down its clusters of fruit, most easy to reach. 14 And brought round amongst them will be vessels of silver and also goblets of glass. 15 and gleaming silver goblets which have been filled to the exact measure, 16 And in that [paradise] they will be given to drink of a cup flavoured with ginger, 17 from a flowing spring called Salsabil. 18 ۞ And there shall go round unto them youths ever-young. When thou seest them thou wouldst deem them pearls unstrung. 19 And when you look towards it, you will see serenity and a great kingdom. 20 In it they adorn clothes of fine green silk and gold embroidery; and they are given silver bracelets to wear; and their Lord gave them pure wine to drink. 21 Behold, this is a recompense for you, and your striving is thanked.' 22
