The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
WHEN THE SUN is shrouded in darkness, 1 And when the stars fall, 2 And when the hills are moved, 3 When the she-camels, ten months with young, are left untended; 4 The wild beasts stampede on the run, 5 And when the seas rise, 6 when the souls are coupled (to their body), 7 And when the girl-child that was buried alive is asked 8 for what sin she was slain, 9 And when the Writs shall be lain open, 10 And when the heaven has its covering removed, 11 and when Hell is set ablaze, 12 And when Paradise is brought near. 13 then shall a soul know what it has produced. 14 But nay! I swear by the stars, 15 that hide, 16 And by oath of the night when it turns back. 17 And by the dawn as it brightens; 18 Verily this is the word of a noble message-bearer; 19 Owner of strength, of established dignity with the Lord of the Throne. 20 With authority there, (and) faithful to his trust. 21 For, this fellow-man of yours is not a madman: 22 And indeed he saw him on the clear horizon. (Prophet Mohammed saw Angel Jibreel in his true shape – peace and blessings be upon them). 23 Neither doth he withhold grudgingly a knowledge of the Unseen. 24 And the Qur'an is not the word of a devil, expelled [from the heavens]. 25 So whither do you stray? 26 This is certainly the guidance for all (jinn and mankind). 27 for whosoever of you who would go straight; 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Lord of the Universe, so wills it [to show you that way]. 29
