۞ NOW WHENEVER [the nature of] the son of Mary is set forth as an example, [O Muhammad,] lo! thy people raise an outcry on this score, 57 and say: 'What, are our gods better, or is he?' They do not mention him to you except to dispute, truly, they are a contentious nation. 58 Jesus was not but a servant upon whom We bestowed favor, and We made him an example for the Children of Israel. 59 if We had so wished, We could have appointed angels in exchange for you to succeed you on the earth. 60 And verily he is a sign of the Hour wherefore dubitate not thereof, and follow Me: this is the straight path. 61 Let not Satan misdirect you. He is your open enemy. 62 And when Isa came with evidences, he said: of a surety I have come unto you with wisdom, and to expound unto you some of that wherein ye differ; so fear Allah and obey me. 63 "Verily, God is my Sustainer as well as your Sustainer; so worship [none but] Him: this [alone] is a straight way!" 64 But the factions differed among themselves. Woe alas to the sinners for the torment of the grievous Day! 65 Are they looking for anything except the Hour (to overtake them). It will come upon them suddenly when they are unaware! 66 On that Day, [erstwhile] friends will be foes unto one another - [all] save the God-conscious. 67
