The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 and continuous shade, 30 and gushing water, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And couches raised up. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 We have made them virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
