The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Of what do they question one another? 1 About the Great News 2 About which they cannot agree. 3 Nay, but they will come to know! 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 and the mountains [its] pegs? 7 And it is We who created you in pairs. 8 And have appointed your sleep for repose, 9 and the night as a cover, 10 And made the day as a means of subsistence? 11 We have built above you seven mighty heavens, 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 and sent down abundant water from the clouds 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 And dense gardens. 16 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 the day the Trumpet is blown, and you shall come in troops, 18 And the heaven is opened and becometh as gates, 19 and the mountains shall be made to vanish, as if they had been a mirage. 20 Indeed, Gehenna (Hell) has become an ambush, 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 They will abide therein for ages, 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 Except boiling water, and dirty wound discharges. 25 An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes). 26 Indeed they had no fear of the account. 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
