He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 you attend to him, 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and who has fear of God, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
