Ad gave the lie to the apostles. 123 Their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear God? 124 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 125 fear God, then, and obey me. 126 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 127 Do you build on every height a monument? Vain is it that you do: 128 And seek ye out strongholds, that haply ye may last for ever? 129 "And when you seize, seize you as tyrants? 130 Have fear of God and obey me. 131 Keep your duty toward Him Who hath aided you with (the good things) that ye know, 132 “He aided you with cattle and sons.” 133 And gardens and springs. 134 "Verily, I fear for you the torment of a Great Day." 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether thou admonish us or be not among (our) admonishers! 136 This is but a fable of the men of old, 137 We will not be subjected to any chastisement." 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
