The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 purify your garments; 4 and defilement flee! 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And children present [with him] 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 Then he thought; 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
