I say the truth, and call the moon to witness, 32 and the night when it retreats 33 And the daybreak when it shines; 34 surely it is one of the greatest things 35 A warning to mankind, 36 to whoever among you desires to go forward, or lag behind. 37 Every soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 Except the people of the right hand, 39 In Gardens; they shall be asking, 40 And (ask) of the Sinners: 41 "What led you into Hell Fire?" 42 They will answer: We were not of those who prayed 43 “Nor used to feed the needy.” 44 and we plunged along with the plungers, 45 and belied the Day of Recompense 46 Until the certainty (of death) had come upon us. 47 So the intercession of intercessors shall not avail them. 48 Why then do they turn away from the admonition 49 As if they were affrighted asses, 50 fleeing -- before a lion? 51 Is it that everyone of them wants to receive a heavenly book addressed to him personally? 52 By no means! But they fear not the Hereafter, 53 Nay, verily, this (Quran) is an admonition, 54 so whoever wills shall remember it. 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
