He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 to a rich man, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And he feareth 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
