Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc.). 2 Travailing, worn. 3 roasting at a scorching fire, 4 Given to drink of a spring fiercely boiling. 5 For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 Some faces on that Day will be radiant, 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 In the high empyrean, 10 Where they shall neither hear harmful speech nor falsehood, 11 therein a running fountain, 12 Wherein are couches raised 13 And goblets set at hand 14 cushions ranged, 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Will they not regard the camels, how they are created? 17 And at the Sky, how it is raised high?- 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted and fixed firm? 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder. 21 You are not a warden over them, 22 Save the one who turns away and disbelieves 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 In Our hands are their accounts. 26
