The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city, Makkah - 1 – this city wherein you have been rendered violable– 2 And by the begetter and that which he begat, 3 Verily We have created man into toil and hardship. 4 Does man think that no one will ever have power over him? 5 And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: 6 What, does he think none has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?- 8 One tongue, and two lips, 9 And have shown him the two ways? 10 So he did not quickly enter the steep valley. 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 It is freeing the neck, 13 Or, feeding, in a day of privation, 14 To the orphan with claims of relationship, 15 Or to the poor man lying in the dust. 16 Then he became one of those who believed, and recommended one another to perseverance and patience, and (also) recommended one another to pity and compassion. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 And those who disbelieve in Our signs, they are the Companions of the Left Hand; 19 On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round). 20
