Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O THOU enwrapped one! 1 Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little - 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof 3 or a little more; and with recitation, recite the Koran. 4 Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word. 5 Surely getting up at night is the best means of subduing the self and is more suitable for uprightness in speech. 6 whereas by day a long chain of doings is thy portion. 7 So remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion. 8 Lord of the east and the west! No God is there but He! Wherefore take Him for thy trustee. 9 And bear patiently what they say and avoid them with a becoming avoidance. 10 And leave Me alone [to deal] with those who give the lie to the truth - those who enjoy the blessings of life [without any thought of God] - and bear thou with them for a little while: 11 for with Us there are fetters, and a furnace, 12 food that chokes and painful punishment 13 On that day, the earth and the mountains will be violently shaken, and the mountains will be turned into heaps of moving sand. 14 We have sent an Apostle to you as a witness against you, as We had sent an apostle to the Pharaoh. 15 But the Pharaoh disobeyed the apostle; so We seized him with a grievous punishment. 16 Then how can you avoid the punishment, if you disbelieve, on a Day that will make the children grey-headed (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)? 17 The heavens itself will be rent asunder (on that day). His promise is bound to be fulfilled. 18 Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. 19
