The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ What are they asking each other about? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 Regarding which they hold different views. 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 Again, by no means! anon they shall know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 Have We not created you in pairs, 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 And We have made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water, 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 [On that Day,] verily, hell will lie in wait [for those who deny the truth] 21 a resort for the rebellious; 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 except boiling water and pus 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 Indeed they had no fear of the account. 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
