The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city 1 For you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) are in this city. 2 and I swear by the parent and his offspring: 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Deemest he that none will overpower him? 5 (He boasts and shows off) saying, "I have spent a great deal of money (for the cause of God)". 6 Does man think that no one saw him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And showed him two highways (of good and evil)? 10 But he could not scale the steep ascent. 11 And what shall make thee understand that which the steep is? 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 Or to feed in times of famine 14 An orphan of near relationship 15 Or to the indigent (down) in the dust. 16 the believers who cooperate with others in patience (steadfastness) and kindness. 17 These are the people of the right. 18 But those who disbelieve Our revelations, their place will be on the left hand. 19 On them is fire closed over. 20
