The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 Then will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming. 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 The reward for what they did. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 And extended shade, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And carpets raised. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 We have made them virgins, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
