And the chieftains of his folk, who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter, and whom We had made soft in the life of the world, said: This is only a mortal like you, who eateth of that whereof ye eat and drinketh of that ye drink. 33 If ye were to obey a mortal like yourselves, then, lo! ye surely would be losers. 34 What, does he promise you that when you are dead, and become dust and bones, you shall be brought forth? 35 ۞ “How remote, (really) how remote is the promise you are given!” 36 There is naught but our life in this world; we die and we live and we shall not be raised again. 37 He is only a man who hath invented a lie about Allah. We are not going to put faith in him. 38 [Whereupon the prophet] would say: "O my Sustainer! Succour me against their accusation of lying!" 39 He said: In a little while they surely will become repentant. 40 So they were rightly seized by a mighty blast; and We turned them into mouldy rubbish: A good riddance of the wicked people! 41 Then We raised after them other generations. 42 No people can hasten on their doom nor can they postpone (it). 43 then We sent Our messengers in succession. Every time their messenger came to a people, they rejected him. So We destroyed them one after the other, and let them become mere tales. So away with the people who will not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our signs and a clear authority 45 Unto Fir'awn and his chiefs, but they grew stiff-necked, and they were a people self-exalting. 46 They said, "Should we believe in two mere mortals who are like ourselves and whose people are our slaves?" 47 Then they belied the twain; so they became of those who were destroyed. 48 And We gave Moses the Book, that haply they would be guided; 49 And We made the son of Mary and his mother as a Sign: We gave them both shelter on high ground, affording rest and security and furnished with springs. 50
