The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ ALIF LAM RA. These are the verses of the Book and the perspicuous oration. 1 The unbelievers would haply like to wish that they had submitted (and become Muslim). 2 Let them eat and enjoy themselves and be diverted by [false] hope, for they are going to know. 3 And We destroyed no township but there was a known decree for it. 4 No nation will precede its term, nor will they remain thereafter. 5 And they say: "O you (Muhammad SAW) to whom the Dhikr (the Quran) has been sent down! Verily, you are a mad man. 6 Why do you not bring to us the angels if you are of the truthful ones? 7 We do not send the angels but with truth, and then they would not be respited. 8 Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an and indeed, We will be its guardian. 9 And assuredly We have sent apostles before thee among the sects of the ancients. 10 But never once an apostle came to them at whom they did not scoff. 11 Even so do We [now] cause this [scorn of Our message] to pervade the hearts of those who are lost in sin, 12 They believe not therein, and already the example of the ancients hath gone forth. 13 And if We opened upon them a door of the heaven, and they passed the day mounting thereto. 14 still they would say: 'Our eyes were dazzled; truly, we must have been a bewitched people' 15
