He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And he fears, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olives and palms 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
