The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When heaven is rent asunder 1 And it hearkeneth to its Lord, and is duteous. 2 When the earth is stretched out taut 3 And has cast out that within it and relinquished [it] 4 And attentive to her Lord in fear! 5 O Man! Thou art labouring unto thy Lord laboriously, and thou shalt encounter Him. 6 Then, as for him who will be given his Record in his right hand, 7 Soon an easy account will be taken from him. 8 And will return unto his folk in joy. 9 But he who is given his ledger from behind his back 10 He will invoke (his) destruction, 11 and he will enter the blazing flame. 12 They lived among their people joyfully 13 Verily he imagined that he would not be back. 14 Yes indeed, his Lord was ever watching him. 15 So I swear by the afterglow of sunset; 16 And by the night and whatever it gathers in its darkness; 17 and by the moon, when it reaches its fullness: 18 That you shall most certainly enter one state after another. 19 What, then, is amiss with them that they will not believe [in a life to come]? 20 And when the Quran is recited to them, they fall not prostrate, ۩ 21 Nay! those who disbelieve give the lie to the truth. 22 But God knows what they harbour in their breasts. 23 Wherefore announce thou unto them a torment afflictive. 24 unless it be such [of them] as [repent, and] attain to faith, and do good works; for theirs shall be a reward unending! 25
