Recite unto them the story of Abraham: 69 when he said to his father and his people, 'What do you serve?' 70 They said: We worship idols, so we shall be their votaries. 71 He said: "Do they hear you, when you call (on them)? 72 Or do they benefit or harm you? 73 They replied: 'No, but we found our fathers doing so' 74 He said, "Then do you see what you have been worshipping, 75 and what your grandfathers worshipped 76 Verily they are an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the worlds. 77 "Who has created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 He who gives me food and drink; 79 And when I am sick, then He restores me to health 80 “And He will give me death, then resurrect me.” 81 And Who, I hope, will forgive me my mistakes on the day of judgment. 82 My Lord: Grant me wisdom, and join me with the good 83 And ordain for me a goodly mention among posterity 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Delight. 85 Forgive my father. He has gone astray. 86 And disgrace me not on the day when they are raised 87 on the Day of Judgment when neither wealth nor children will be of any benefit 88 Unless it be he, who shall bring unto Allah a whole heart, 89 And the Garden will be brought nigh for those who ward off (evil). 90 "And to those straying in Evil, the Fire will be placed in full view; 91 and they will be asked: "Where are the gods that you worshipped 92 besides God? Will the idols help you? Can they help themselves?" 93 Then the idols and those who strayed will be hurled into the Fire headlong, one upon another, 94 "And the whole hosts of Iblis together. 95 They will dispute between themselves therein, and will say, 96 "We were clearly misguided 97 "'When we held you as equals with the Lord of the Worlds; 98 Only the sinful ones made us go astray. 99 So none we have as intercessors. 100 nor a loving friend. 101 Would that we had a second chance [in life,] so that we could be among the believers!" 102 There is certainly a sign in that, but most of them would not believe: 103 And lo, thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
