۞ “Gather all the unjust persons and their spouses, and all that they used to worship!” – 22 apart from God, and guide them unto the path of Hell! 23 "But stop them, for they must be asked: 24 "How is it that [now] you cannot succour one another?" 25 Nay, but that Day they shall surrender, 26 And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning. 27 They will say: "It was ye who used to come to us from the right hand (of power and authority)!" 28 Others will respond, "It was you who did not want to have any faith. 29 We had no power over you, but ye were wayward folk. 30 Now the Word of our Lord hath been fulfilled concerning us. Lo! we are about to taste (the doom). 31 So we led you astray, for we ourselves were erring. 32 On that Day, they will all share the chastisement. 33 Verily that is how We shall deal with Sinners. 34 Surely they used to behave proudly when it was said to them: There is no god but Allah; 35 And they used to say, “Shall we forsake our Gods upon the sayings of a mad poet?” 36 In fact, he had brought them the truth and had acknowledged the Messengers (who were sent before him). 37 (They will be told): “You shall taste the grievous chastisement. 38 and will be recompensed only for what you deserve. 39 Save the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 40 For them there is a known provision, 41 Fruits; and they will be honored 42 in the Gardens of Delight, 43 (Sitting) on couches, face to face, 44 a cup from a spring being passed round to them, 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 Free from headiness; nor will they suffer intoxication therefrom. 47 And with them maidens of modest look and large lustrous eyes, 48 Like sheltered eggs in a nest. 49 Then they will advance unto each other, mutually questioning. 50 One of them speaks thus: "Behold, I had [on earth] a close companion 51 "Who used to say, 'what! art thou amongst those who bear witness to the Truth (of the Message)? 52 Shall we be recompensed for our deeds after we die and become bones and dust? 53 He said (to others on the thrones), “Will you take a glimpse (into hell) below?” 54 He looked down and saw (his friend) in the midst of Hell. 55 He shall say: By Allah! you had almost caused me to perish; 56 But for Allah's favour, I should be one of those who have been mustered here. 57 He will ask his companion, "Did you not say that there would only be one death 58 "Except our first death, and that we shall not be punished?" 59 Truly, this is a great victory!" 60 and for the like of this let the workers work. 61 Is that the better entertainment or the Tree of Zaqqum? 62 Surely We have made it to be a trial to the unjust. 63 (Zaqqum) is a tree which grows from the deepest part of hell, 64 Its spathes are like the prickly pear. 65 And verily they must eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 then on top of it they have a brew of boiling water, 67 then their return is to Hell. 68 They had indeed found their forefathers astray. 69 and rushed to follow them. 70 And indeed most of the men of old went astray before them; 71 And We had sent admonishers to them. 72 Then see what was the end of those who were admonished (but heeded not),- 73 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 74
