Nay, by the Moon 32 And by oath of the night when it turns back. 33 and by the day when it dawns (with its radiance), 34 Surely, it is one of the gravest things, 35 As a warning to humanity - 36 to whoever among you desires to go forward, or lag behind. 37 Every soul is pledged to what it does, 38 except the Companions of the Right. 39 In Gardens they will question 40 of those who were lost in sin: 41 "What was it that brought you to Hell?" 42 They will answer: "We did not fulfil our devotional obligations, 43 and we did not feed the poor, 44 We used to wade (in vain dispute) with (all) waders, 45 and belied the Day of Recompense 46 Till death overtook us. 47 And so, of no benefit to them could be the intercession of any that would intercede for them. 48 Why then do they turn away from the admonition 49 As if they were alarmed donkeys 50 That had fled from a lion? 51 Rather, every person among them desires that he would be given scriptures spread about. 52 Nay, but they do not [believe in and hence, do not] fear the life to come. 53 Nay! it is surely an admonition. 54 Then whoever wills will remember it. 55 And what advice will they heed, except if Allah wills? Only He deserves to be feared, and His only is the greatness of forgiving. 56
