The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Hour has come near, and the moon has split [in two]. 1 And if they see a miracle they turn aside and say: Transient magic. 2 And they denied and followed their inclinations. But for every matter is a [time of] settlement. 3 And there has already come to them of information that in which there is deterrence - 4 Wisdom consummate. But warnings avail not. 5 So turn away from them. When on the Day the crier calls to the painful business, 6 they will come forth from their graves, with their eyes downcast, [swarming about] like locusts scattered [by the wind,] 7 They shall be hurrying forth towards the caller, and the unbelievers (who had once denied this Day), will say: “This is a woeful Day.” 8 ۞ The people of Noah had denied before them, and had called Our votary a liar, and said: "He is possessed," and repulsed him. 9 And so he called unto his Lord, saying, 'I am vanquished; do Thou succour me!' 10 And We opened up the flood gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, 11 And caused springs to gush out from the earth, so that the two waters met totalling a quantity that had been destined. 12 We carried him in a well built, watertight vessel made from planks (of wood) 13 that ran on under Our Eyes, a recompense for him because he had been disbelieved. 14 And certainly We left it as a sign, but is there anyone who 15 But how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning? 16 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 17 'Ad also gave the lie (to Hud). So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 18 We let loose against them a violent roaring wind on a day of ill omen, continuous, 19 it swept the people away as though they were palm-trunks uprooted: 20 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 21 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 22
