The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 About the great event, 2 That over which they are in disagreement. 3 No indeed; soon will they come to know; 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And it is We who created you in pairs. 8 And have appointed your sleep for repose, 9 The night a covering, 10 and made the day to seek livelihood, 11 And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 And gardens dense and luxuriant. 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come forth in crowds (groups); 18 And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates, 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 Verily the Hell is an ambuscade: 21 It will be a place of return 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 , A fitting reward. 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 'Taste! We shall not increase you except in punishment' 30
