He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 when the blind came to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 To him you give attention. 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and who has fear of God, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 In honored books, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 and olives and palms, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and grass, 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
